Free Color Contrast Checker — WCAG AA & AAA
Check if your text and background colour combination meets WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards. Enter any two colours and instantly see the contrast ratio and whether they pass AA or AAA level requirements for normal and large text.
What is WCAG Contrast?
WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) defines minimum contrast ratios to ensure text is readable by people with visual impairments. AA level requires a 4.5:1 ratio for normal text and 3:1 for large text. AAA level (stricter) requires 7:1 for normal text and 4.5:1 for large text.
Large Text Definition
WCAG defines large text as 18pt (24px) regular weight or 14pt (approximately 18.67px) bold. Any text below these sizes is considered normal text and requires the higher contrast ratio to pass AA compliance.
Why Colour Contrast Matters
Approximately 8% of men and 0.5% of women have some form of colour blindness. Sufficient contrast between text and background ensures your content is readable for everyone. Many jurisdictions now legally require websites to meet WCAG AA minimum standards.
